Extraction principle

How this method works

Because water and coffee mix before pressing, extraction is relatively even. The final pressure speeds filtration, but it is not equivalent to an espresso machine.

Small changes in grind, agitation and time produce very different styles, which makes it ideal for learning variables.

Process

Step-by-step preparation

01

Prepare filter

Place and rinse the paper. Set AeroPress on a sturdy cup.

02

Add coffee

Use medium-fine grind for short recipes or medium for longer recipes.

03

Pour water

Add water, ensuring full saturation.

04

Stir gently

Stir or swirl briefly to homogenize. You do not need to beat it.

05

Steep

Wait according to recipe: 60-90 seconds for a quick cup, longer for body.

06

Press

Press slowly and steadily. If it is too hard, the grind is too fine.

Tips

How to improve preparation

Start simple

15 g coffee, 240 g water, 2 minutes, medium grind is a good baseline.

Control strength

For an intense drink, use less water and dilute afterward.

Do not force it

Excessive pressure can compact fines and add bitterness.

Experiment with filters

Metal gives more body; paper gives more clarity.

Diagnosis

Common mistakes

Too strong

Dilute with hot water or use a longer ratio.

Too weak

Increase dose or reduce water.

Hard to press

Grind coarser or reduce dose.

Harsh flavor

Use less agitation or lower temperature.
